ESSA Consolidated Plan Submission: The Road Ahead

May 10 ESSA Accountability System Workgroup (ASW) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting — The ESSA TAC provided data-backed options to the ASW on different methods of calculating the accountability system.
May 19 ESSA Federal Programs Team meeting to review public comments — The Federal Programs Team met to discuss public comments, determine which to recommend workgroups look at, and begin discussing ESSA implementation.
June 1 ESSA ASW Meeting — The ASW met this day to vote on participation rate, and created tier names to recommend to Superintendent Reykdal.
June 16 ESSA Workgroups finalized their recommendations from public comments — Workgroups received all comments related to their workgroups, in addition to ones recommended by the federal programs team for a second look. Their responses, and any changes, were due by this date.
June 20 State Board of Education (SBE) special meeting — The State Board of Education met this day to discuss the ESSA Consolidated Plan.
June 21 ESSA TAC Meeting — The TAC finished their outstanding work regarding accountability, and finished their proposals to the ASW.
June 22 Final ESSA ASW Meeting — The ASW spent the day taking up remaining pieces related to accountability in Washington state, and sent forward their recommendations to Superintendent Reykdal.
June 29 Superintendent Reykdal makes final decisions on public comments for inclusion in the plan — Superintendent Reykdal will review any new recommendations to the plan and select those of which he will include in the second draft.
July 6 Superintendent Reykdal makes final decisions on accountability recommendations — The Superintendent will review the recommendations sent forward from the ASW and decide on inclusion in the plan.
July 12- 13 State Board of Education (SBE) meeting — The State Board of Education’s regularly scheduled, quarterly meeting.
Late July Superintendent Reykdal reviews and approves second draft of Plan for release for public comment — After all approve recommendations have been written into the plan, Superintendent Reykdal will review and approve the second draft of the plan.
August 7- September 5 30-day public comment and outreach period — The Governor will have 30 days to review the plan. The plan will also be released to the legislature, State Board of Education, and the public for a second round of comment.
September 5- 15 Final public comments are reviewed and integrated into the plan — OSPI will review the second round of public comment, and any new recommendations will be taken to Superintendent Reykdal and approved.
September 15 Superintendent Reykdal reviews and approves submission — Superintendent Reykdal will review and approve for submission the final copy of the plan.
September 18 ESSA Consolidated Plan submission — OSPI will officially submit their ESSA Consolidated Plan to the U.S. Department of Education.
